I am Michelle Ziegler, a biologist with interests in public health. I have masters degrees in biological science, and in biosecurity and disaster preparedness. Biosecurity is concerned with preventing, preparing for, and responding to modern epidemics/pandemics and biological weapons. I currently work in a clinical pathology laboratory and teach biology courses, including microbiology.
Contagions is place to collect some thoughts on history, infectious disease and science in general. My primary interests are in the history of plague, and the impact of infectious disease on the Americas. I also hope that this blog will be a bridge between the sciences and humanities.
